Shut Up! Act! Command Respect!

I am so good at giving excuses. Until I realized NO ONE CARES. Everyone respects RESULTS not EXCUSES no matter how valid such excuses might be.

My greatest problem is I talk too much. Huge problem for me. Am a parrot. I always announce and talk about what I want to do before I do it, one of the main reasons some of my relationships failed. After promising to visit my babe over and over even picking a date explaining what we would do where we would go, I would at the last moment cancel the date for flimsy reasons, mostly because I couldn’t put my money where my mouth was. I have a lot of friends who have experienced my saying one thing and doing the exact opposite. When all I needed to have done was not to have said anything and just simply do what I thought of. Better to say you wont do a thing and do it, that say you would and you don’t. Matthew 21:28-32

Years ago, I asked a close friend and mentor why everyone respects him so much. He smiled and told me it was because he rarely talks. He was not one of the EXCOs of Christian Union FPI then, but EXCOs came to him for advise and respect him a lot. He told me that until I harness the power of SILENCE I can never ever truly command respect. No wonder the bible says in Prov:17:28 (AMP) Even a [callous, arrogant] fool, when he keeps silent, is considered wise; When he closes his lips he is regarded as sensible (prudent, discreet) and a man of understanding.

This reminds me of a story of a young man who got a loan to start a business of selling ceramic plates. he bought the plates stacked them up and sat in front of the stacks staring at the plates. Then he started soliloquizing.

“I am going to be so rich after selling all these plates. So so rich. Once I sell this plates, I will take the money and start a farm. From the money from the farm, I will then buy several plots of land, build houses on them and rent them out. Wow, I will be so rich I will then approach the King to give me his daughter’s hand in marriage. He has no choice than to oblige, who will decline a request from the wealthiest man in the land. Once married, my wife must serve me food kneeling down and must call me your Lordship. If she does so without calling me your Lordship. I will give her and very strong KICK like this.”

He thrust his legs forward, to imitate the kick and unknowing kicked the plates stacked in front of him. All the plates crashed and broke into several peieces…

When I read the story I laughed till tears came out of my eyes (as some of you seeing this for the first time will).

So I am taking a PARTIAL Vow of Silence (Chatting on social media included fb and whatsapp etc) . Partial because I do have to talk once in a while when its compulsory, I will limit it to bare essentials. I will however write more… For my friends who know me, I make one ONE LONG POST on FB in weeks . This is my second today. Expect more.
